Sports Direct Giving Santa A Run For His Money

This year Sports Direct is playing old St Nick at his own game, by delivering Christmas joy to children in Liberia. We have collaborated with schools across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, to accumulate over 800 presents that will be delivered to Liberia in time for Christmas.

Sports Direct are doing this with the help of Operation Christmas Child, an annual charity event run by the Samaritan's Purse. Operation Christmas Child has the power to bring hope and put smiles on the faces of children that live in some of the poorest places on earth. Since 1990 the charity has delivered over 124 million presents to boys and girls across the world. The presents are care packages which can contain toothpaste, hats, gloves, toys, and school supplies.

Sports Direct offered to collect presents from local schools and pay the £3 delivery charge for each box donated. Between 28th and 30th of November Sports Direct collected presents from Holly Primary, Shirebrook Academy, Whaley Thorns Primary, Bramley Vale Primary School, Creswell Junior School, Church Vale Primary School, Sherwood Junior School, Park Junior School, Farmilo Primary School, Crescent Primary School, and Leas Park Junior School.

Mrs. Caroline Savage Class Teacher at Holly Primary School said

“This is the first year our school has taken part and I am amazed by the response. It is really good that Sports Direct offer to cover the delivery charge, which can be an extra expense on top of the gifts. I love the charity and believe it really adds an important message to this time of year.”

The company delivered 812 presents to the local Operation Christmas Child depot in Chesterfield on Wednesday the 30th. This depot will be delivering over 15,000 present to Liberia, where they will be given to boys and girls by the Samaritans Purse

Chris Dean Senior HR Advisor at Sports Direct said.

“This is the second year we have worked with the charity, and It has been an absolute privilege to be able to drive this local campaign. I am truly proud of Sports Direct, Transline, and The Best Connection team members, for donating to the cause. I would also like give special thanks to the local schools, for helping deliver hope to children in need at this time of year”
