Lisa Cottan gives her opinion on the Sports Direct “Home-grown” Managers Development Program

I started as a part-time sales assistant in the Preston store a little over 12 years ago, I continued part time for 2 years whilst I studied. Upon completion of my college course, I was offered a full-time position as Supervisor. Through hard work and continued support, I progressed through various Supervisor roles until I was promoted 2 years ago to an Assistant Manager.

This is not my first time on the Head Office Training Academy; I have also attended various product training courses that I found extremely useful and have passed this knowledge on to my team, so that we can continue to provide the best level of customer service in our store.

Most recently my Area Manager put me forward for the “Home-grown” Management Development Program, to further my personal development within the company. The course covers all aspects of running a Sports Direct store, merchandising, operational expectations as well as leadership and development elements that I can apply to developing my own team. The Training Team deliver this training with detail, support and enthusiasm; making the learning environment easy to get comfortable in and remain engaged throughout the course.

This course has given me the knowledge and confidence to further support my team and continue my own progression towards a Store Managers role.

Sports Direct has provided me with so many amazing opportunities; from attending the annual conference to supporting people new to the business in our European store development projects. I could never imagine that my little Saturday job would lead to such an amazing career.
