Thanks to Sports Direct employees You have fewer reasons to worry about fire, in the Derbyshire. Two members of the SD family have passed mental and physical test, they are looking forward to joining the ranks of the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service. As volunteer firefighters.
In May, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service held a recruitment drive for their retained duty Station in Shirebrook, which is a few minutes away from Sports Direct’s head office. Plenty of willing Sports Direct team members applied. To make sure they could successfully serve the public they were tested on their logic and reasoning skills, as well as their physical fitness
IT Support Team Leader and successful applicant Lawrence Hardy said: “I’ve wanted to do this for a while. It’s Perfect being this close to the station and having Sports Direct support”.
The SD Family members will receive a call when they are needed. Sports Direct are allowing Lawrence and Andrew to drop whatever they are doing to respond to any emergency. Chris Dean Senior Human Resources Advisor said: “ We are extremely proud of their courage, and willingness to help the community.”
In August, Sports Direct also helped with an open day at the Shirebrook Fire Station. This event was to raise awareness for the recruitment drive in a fun way. Children and parents were invited to see the fire engines and have a go rock climbing and other activities.
We hope you never have to dial 999 for a fire. But if you do, you may feel safe knowing there are plenty of people out there willing to help.
